Overview

We are a London based, full-service law firm providing proactive, expert advice to ambitious businesses and individuals for all their legal needs.

Our business clients are often privately or family owned, founder-led or private equity backed, including challenger banks and similar institutions and the individuals who own and manage these. A unifying theme is that they are entrepreneurial, growing businesses who require practical and commercial advice from advisers who understand them.

We also advise larger corporates on particular specialist legal matters who find our open approach a compelling alternative to larger, less personal firms.

In addition to our significant business law capability, we also have a large private wealth offering. We provide a personalised and discreet service for those with significant wealth as well as those whose needs are not so complex.

Leadership

As our firm grows, so does the need for effective leadership. We are a full-service firm with many departments and multi-disciplinary teams that span our internal divisions. All this activity requires careful coordination and direction. Our Leadership Group and Executive Committee ensure effective organisation and delivery of our legal services as well as steering the growth of the firm, ensuring its unique culture is maintained throughout. The distance between ownership and management is short which means that we remain agile and responsive, meaning we make the right choices for our people and our clients quickly and without fuss.    

Leadership group

Lawrence Stephens is a founder-led business. The founders work actively in our business, complemented by a cohort of Senior Directors. This group is responsible for development and implementation of the firm’s strategy and is chaired by co-founder Steven Bernstein, who was appointed Managing Director in August 2023.

Other members of the group are: Andrew Conway, Lawrence Kelly, Stephen Messias, Gregory Palos, Jeff Rubenstein and Danny Schwarz.

Executive Committee

Our Executive Committee comprises Managing Director Steven Bernstein, Chief Operating Officer Johnny Nichols, Head of Finance Tanya Berberova and Head of Business Development and Marketing, Daryl Atkinson. The committee meets regularly and provides day-to-day management and administration of the firm, delegated from the Directors.
